The exhibition site is a former industrial warehouse of 2,000 square meters, where Promotedesign.it will create an experiential path, discovering and carefully selecting innovative brands, young labels and historical brands to show the best that the contemporary design scene has to offer.

Announce de vacances • Vacation notice

....... 20 Juillet - 1 Aout • 20 July - 1 August .......

It's that time of the year again to kick back and absorbed some much needed Vitamin D and jump off the grid for a bit. As for me, I like taking a bit of time of here and there, not the entire 4-5 weeks of straight vegetation like most French people do – unbeknownst to me the extent of seriousness they take it!

Tomorrow will be your last day to order anything and potentially have it sent of before my return on the 1st of August, unless it's bespoke to which then you'll have to wait.

Here are some new pieces I'd made ready-to-ship online.
See you when I return! Stay fresh.

Too hot to Blog!

It's been a while yes I know.
Since the last post I'd delivered 3 packages with lots of goodies for 3 different galleries, two in Belgium and one in Toulon, South of France. Not to mention jetting off in between to Milos, Greece with my yoga buddies for some much needed time-out.

Below are just a few pieces from the week! Mixing Oxidised Silver with gold and Silver & gold-plated etc.

Take care under this intense heat x

Indulgent Keepsake Pebble ring band

In the past few weeks I've been tinkering away with an unused electric tool that's been tucked away for at least 3 years to date. It allowed me to create this Indulgent of a ring. It feels somewhat courageous and daring in many ways; artistically, spiritually & perhaps even spatially... liken to some sort of artistic "coming-out". It was fun! And I hope to prolong this journey in 2018.

From one tool to another and wearable to boot!

A while back, I was given a pair of solid Mother of Pearl(MOP) Salad servers by a lovely client. They were both broken in parts that enabled further use from its original purpose. Being familiar with my previous MOP line she gave me permission to repurpose these magnificently thick MOP parts into jewellery. Between a long period of pondering in & out of what justice I could do with them and my recent visit to an exhibition at Galerie La Joaillerie pa Mazlo call 'Holy Tools' a light-bulb went off! I cannot tell you how thrilled I am for these to be finally reunited with their initial objective as tools AND be given an additional new life as art jewellery.

Two have been born from them thus far, one as a comb and the other a paper knife. The further left chunky piece is yet to be transformed.

Here are some in between pictures below or just simply follow my Instagram for regular updates. https://www.instagram.com/minicyn_/

Daintier Cascading Sequins Silver necklace

A Long awaited daintier version of the original larger version.

Recent newbies for the month of August.

One of the many things that stood out like a sore thumb for me as a non-European living in Paris is how seriously the French take their holidays. Concordant to popular belief multiply by 100, it is still beyond words even after 8 years. I would liken it to a calm before a storm so to speak and it makes me laugh a little each time how sudden the evacuation can be. The streets are so empty you can hear a pigeon drop its poop, 9out of 10 shops are closed, services are mostly out for the whole complete month, the 'Punk à Chien' aka 'Ferals' are out from the woods, thieves are on the loose, break-ins are as popular as Deliveroo. There ain't no such thing as shift work no part-timers taking over, NADA. We're lucky that this social/historical construct does not affect me directly nor am I obligated to take my kids away. Hence, it's play time for us Minicyn and Devocite, where we put our heads down and focus on our personal projects. Here are just a few new unique pieces in the shop though I haven't forgotten. Enjoy.

Mother of Pearl Capsule collection

Since the beginning of the year, I've been experimenting with some pieces of Mother of Pearl from my stash of goodies. Learning on how to cut/saw, polish, shape etc the material ('Nacre' in French). It's been a rather messy study though the results have been rewarding. It reverberated in just a small handful of earrings which I'd presented them briefly during my participation in JEMA (please see my previous Blog posts) at my studio.

I happy to say that a few of the designs will be available to purchase in the next few days. The quantity is very limited unfortunately so brace yourselves!

Here are just some which I'll be listing soon. Available in both Silver or oxidised.

Gros Bisou, Petit bisou?

Ode to rings and kisses, big or small.

I've learned after living in Paris, France for 7 years now that the french has a number of different words for "kiss," which can be confusing for foreigners. The kind of kiss I'm referring to are the platonic ones exchanged between friends, families, and colleagues. It is an important and ritualistic gesture for all first immediate encounters, even in most workplaces. Note: Not to mention that they have over 40 different kinds of kisses, as Kristoffer Nyrop noted in his book The Kiss and its History. But let's not get sidetracked here!

The most widely used terms are bise and bisou, and while they are both informal with similar meanings and uses, they're not quite the same! Une Bise is a kiss on each side of the cheek as a gesture of friendship, used for hellos or goodbyes between friends or acquaintances. This version is often also used to sign off at the end of a letter and in the expression 'faire la bise'. Whereas Bisou has a more familiar tone, is a warmer, more playful version – referring to a kiss on the cheek or on the lips! Bisous(plural) can say good-bye to a good friends or families as well used to end a conversation on the phone often repetitively to emphasise closeness, love or warmth! Bisou bisou! Gros bisou!

Quickly jumping off to the topic of rings now....how much has the meaning of rings changed today in our community? Did you know that unlike in the medieval period and up until the present in some religion and high-class society that rank was often signified by the wearing of a ring – one would even kiss a person's ring to show submission to authority, quite the contrary to our contemporary setting today! It is thanks to the breakdown of the class system in majority of our population today, we all have the right to; regardless of age or class, both own and wear a ring.

Here is where I share with you some pictures of my latest fruition from these 2 insights. Also available to order (made-to-measure) at minicynbijoux.com

Bisous a tout le monde x
